The Studio, Liverpool

Games development in the Merseyside region generates £300m annually, and provides more than 1,600 direct jobs. NESTA predicts that Creative and Digital Industries will grow at double the rate of the rest of the economy. Yet, nationally there is a significant skills shortage in this sector.

The Studio will specialise in gaming and digital media, and will directly address the skills shortage for this sector by delivering a STEAM based curriculum which will combine the delivery of maths, science, art and creative subjects in project based learning. Computer Science will also be offered as part of the curriculum. Students will graduate from the studio school equipped with these specialist skills and business qualifications. The delivery of the national curriculum including English will facilitated by using gaming and digital futures technology where possible.

Our vision is shared by employers and stakeholders across the Liverpool City Region who recognise a need to develop skills for this highly technical, knowledge based industry. Alongside a sizeable number of SME organisations, there are three higher education institutions that deliver degrees specifically for this sector. Progression routes for students will include employment, further study or indeed self employment.
